Ottawa, April 1, 2021 – For the first time in over 50 years, the Ottawa Regional Science Fair (ORSF) is holding its annual science fair virtually. More than 60 high school students are participating in this unprecedented edition.

“The ORSF organizing committee has worked tirelessly this past year to ensure that we met the challenge of hosting an entirely virtual fair,” says Simon McMillan, ORSF Chair. “With the collaboration of schools, our sponsors, and most importantly, the students, we were able to come up with a solution that was as innovative as the fair participants’ projects! “

From March 27 to April 9, 2021, jury members will evaluate the projects received and award the deserving students with numerous prizes during an awards ceremony to be held on April 10th. The ORSF is proud to announce that it will offer all its usual prizes, including 11 tickets to the Canada-Wide Science Fair, which will also be held virtually in 2021. The list of winners will be posted on orsf.ca and on our social media pages on April 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

In 2019, Bhavya Mohan, the 2019 ORSF winner, won the award for Project of the Year at the Canada-Wide Science Fair. Bhavya had encountered a cancer patient who was successfully treated, but had developed a dangerous side effect. His project not only improved the treatment, but also reduced its related costs.

About the Ottawa Regional Science Fair

The Ottawa Regional Science Fair (ORSF) is a registered charity and has been hosting the annual science fair for students in grades 7 through 12 in the Ottawa-Carleton Region for over 50 years. Our mission is to showcase the incredible knowledge and value that young innovators can contribute to their communities. Each year, approximately 300 projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are entered into the fair. ORSF supports our students through mentorship programs and, with the generous support of our partners and sponsors, awards cash prizes and the opportunity to compete at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) to the top projects in a number of categories.
